Grade 6 Curriculum: MIDDLE AGES

The medieval world

The medieval world covers the period in history  between the end of the ancientm, or "classical" world, during the A.D. 400s and the start of the early modern world, during the A.D. 1400s. The word "medieval" comes from the Latin medium aevum, meaning "the middle age" - so this period is sometimes called the Middle Ages. The beginning and end dates of the period vary a lot from continent to continent, but the period does have some common themes that link these separate locations together. Christianity and then Islam established themselves as worldwide religions, trade became increasingly international, and new inventions, such as gunpowder and printing, began transforming the daily lives of people all around the globe.
